Is Having a Social Influence Necessary?

You have probably heard of reputation management. It is a topic that many business owners are concerned about due to the popularity of social networks. What can you do about this?
First of all it is important to note that you will not be able to control everything that is happening in the social stratosphere. The reason is because not everyone who comes across your site or business will like it and more than likely they will have an opinion about you, your business and  your products.
What the social media allows people to do is share their thoughts about any business online. The downside is that if the person is not happy with a business or product they will tell everyone they know.
The sites like Facebook and Twitter makes it possible to instantly blast a message out to thousands even millions of people all at the same time. If what people have to say about you is good then it will help your reputation but if it is bad then you can not erase what has been said about you.
Experts say that the only re-course is to address the situation head on, meaning you will have to speak upon the situation as it happens by commenting or answering questions.
You may be familiar with websites that list scams or rip-off companies by name and you can read through a long list of people who have left responses about what has happened to them, either good or bad.
For the companies who feel wrongly accused all they can do is post a reply to the people who make these types of statements.
They can try and clarify a misunderstanding, offer an apology or look for a resolution but that can take months or even years to reach an agreement that is going to make a previous customer happy.
In the mean time the comment they left or the tweets they sent out is forever in cyberspace for others to come across and believe it or not people will make a decision about buying from a company based on what other people have to say about it.
Reputation management online is a full time business and those who invest to keep up with what others are saying about them will be in a better position to try and clear the air and defend their case.
Some business professionals are uncomfortable with how easy it is for someone to come and tear down what they have built up. So having social influence is necessary to build relationships and trust with your readers, audience and consumers.
There will always be those individuals who are not happy with your products or services and that is just part of being in business, but it is important to try and build a reputation that people can stand behind and support when the going gets tough.
